About Donna's Yoga
I first started attending Yoga classes when I was fifteen years old. I discovered straight away that it was for me. It seems to help with everything that life throws at you. I continued to enjoy Yoga through my twenties and thirties, going to many teachers and learning different styles.
When i had children I found Yoga helped during the pregnancies and afterwards to keep my body healthy and helping to stay relaxed.
I always felt I would like to teach Yoga and finally, in 2000 I started teacher training with Greta Bennett at Hastings and District Yoga Association. In 2002, during my teacher training, I also had twin girls so it was a busy time! I qualified successfully and classes started at Little Common Community Centre in Bexhill, East Sussex.
About the MS Classes
In 2003 I was asked to take a class for people with MS. The class has now been running for five years and is open to all as remedial Yoga.
This is a very gentle practice and we take everything very slowly using props to help with the postures. The class comprises of the following:
- balancing exercises
- breathing exercises to calm the mind and get rid of tension
- deep relaxation at the end of the session which has great benefits as muscles relax and the heart rate and breathing slow down helping to rid the body of tension and gives the immune system a boost.
People with MS have found yoga to be extremely beneficial in maintaining muscle tone, strength and flexibility and it helps to restore a sense of power over their lives, enhancing the overall quality of life.
The class is very friendly and if you have M.S you will find you may have much in common with other students and it can open other doors for you as Hastings and Rother MS society have a social group. To find out more visit: www.ms-societyhastingsrother.org.uk (link opens in a new window)
The venue for the class is at the West St Leonards Community Centre. There is car parking and wheelchair access. More information about the class can be found here.
MS One-to-ones
If you have MS and you cannot attend the class, then I also do one-to-one sessions in your own home. Even if you are in a wheelchair it is not a problem. If you are a member of the MS Society there may be funding available. Please contact me to find out more.
